We are committed to handling your data with care, clarity, and respect.
2. Information We Collect
a) Information You Provide
We currently collect only minimal personal information required to operate the Service:
- Email address
- Password (securely stored and encrypted)
We do not require your name or any additional personal details at this time.
b) Usage Information (if applicable)
We may collect basic technical data such as:
- Device type
- Browser type
- General usage patterns (e.g. feature interaction)
This data is used only to improve performance and user experience.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide access to the Service
- Communicate essential account-related information
- Maintain and improve the functionality of the platform
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We send marketing emails, such as occasional Hey Human news and updates, only with your consent. You can give that consent at signup or later in the app, and you can withdraw it at any time in your settings or through the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

We take reasonable steps to protect your data using:

- Encryption of sensitive information (e.g. passwords)
- Restricted access controls
No system is completely secure, but we are committed to maintaining a high standard of data protection.
5. Data Sharing
We do not share your personal information with third parties except:

- To trusted service providers (e.g. hosting, authentication services) who help operate the platform and are bound by confidentiality obligations
Analytics and advertising
We use a small number of outside services to understand how our website is used and to measure whether our advertising works.
- Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. These help us see how visitors find and move through our website, such as which pages are viewed and where visitors came from.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram). When you create an account, we tell Meta that a registration happened, so we can tell which of our ads are working. What we send is a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address, a scrambled internal account number, your IP address, your browser type, and the fact that an account was created. We do not send your name. Meta uses this to match your sign-up to an ad you may have seen, and also for its own purposes under its own terms.
What we never send. We never send your conversations, anything you have written in the Service, or anything held in your memory, to Google, to Meta, or to any other analytics or advertising service. That boundary does not have exceptions.
Google and Meta are based overseas and will process this information outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected by safeguards comparable to those required under New Zealand law.

7. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for two purposes.
To keep the Service working. Some cookies are essential. They keep you logged in and keep your session secure.
To understand our website and our advertising. We use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and the Meta pixel. These set cookies in your browser and are described in "Data Sharing" above.
We keep advertising tools off the part of the Service where you have your conversations. The Meta pixel runs only on our public marketing pages, and is never loaded on the app itself. Google Analytics does run inside the app, so we can see which features are used and whether the Service is working properly. It records which screens are opened, never what you write in them.
We do not track what you say inside the Service, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
